Company also Offering Free Wi-Fi Hotspots Around the City as Part
of Light Up Cincinnati Initiative
CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 18, 2014--
With support from Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley, local business and
community leaders and sports personalities, Cincinnati Bell President
and CEO Ted Torbeck this evening announced that the company will be
offering Fioptics Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second to its
consumer customers on September 8.
“The company has a unique opportunity to give Cincinnati consumers the
capability to upgrade speeds to meet their ever-changing technology
needs and do so at competitive prices,” said Torbeck. Cincinnati Bell’s
Fioptics Gigabit Internet speed is up to 100 times faster than normal
Cincinnati Bell began offering gigabit Internet service to small
businesses earlier this summer. Torbeck noted that The Brandery, the
small business accelerator located in Over-the-Rhine, was the first
small business to receive Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second
from Cincinnati Bell.
Torbeck’s gigabit Internet service announcement is part of an overall
program from the company to “Light Up Cincinnati.”
Light Up Cincinnati is an initiative designed to provide Cincinnati
residents and businesses with faster, more reliable and accessible
services that will enable the city to grow, learn and connect with one
another like never before.
Torbeck also announced that as part of the Light Up Cincinnati
initiative, the company plans to continue offering free Wi-Fi hotspots
at key Cincinnati locations and in conjunction with community events.
The company will have several Wi-Fi hotspots available during the
Cincinnati Bell/WEBN Fireworks on Labor Day weekend and had previously
set up free hotspots at the Bunbury and Buckle Up music festivals.
“Cincinnati Bell is really focused on connecting and bringing folks
together in a powerful way,” Torbeck said. “Our company is transforming
from a traditional phone company to a technology company designed to
connect people where they live, work and play.”
